Mitzvah Family Highlight – Noah H

When Noah H. led services as a bar mitzvah at Congregation B’nai Torah, his parents Jodi and Jordan were impressed with how poised and confident he was. Nearly 250 friends and family members came to cheer him on throughout his big day, beginning with his d’var Torah, and ending with a FanFest that celebrated his love for all things sports!

After the daytime service, Noah and his family welcomed their guests at The Metropolitan Club for an evening celebration. Everyone was encouraged to wear “fan festive” attire on the invitation by Paper Matters, meaning anything you might wear to a tailgate party was fair game.

Mom Jodi said, “It was fun to see what everyone wore, and the different jerseys and team colors sparked conversations between guests who didn’t yet know each other.”

Let’s Celebrate set the tone for the evening with decorations that made the function space feel like an upscale sports bar, with team pennants hanging from the ceiling, tailgate style stations, sports balls and foam fingers, and tasteful use of Noah’s inventive FanFest logo (by Mitzvah Memos) on signage and LED furniture. Seating cards and tables were marked with centerpieces featuring Noah’s favorite teams. A casual but classy tailgate-style menu by The Metropolitan Club rounded out the theme with game time favorites like wings, mac and cheese, bbq meatballs, soft pretzels, flatbread pizzas and a baked potato bar. For dessert, guests enjoyed an ice cream sundae bar with plenty of toppings and classic root beer floats.

With Noah’s bar mitzvah date late in the year and his classmates having attended dozens of celebrations before his, the family gave the kids’ lounge area a fresh take with a variety of sports games to play, including Pop-A-Shot, Strike a Light, and bubble hockey.

MC Ayce with Atlanta Fever kept the dance floor full all evening with great music, line dances, games, and giveaways, and made sure the special moments of the evening, including a snowball dance for teens and a mother-son dance, came off without a hitch.

“The grand entrance was so special; that one moment when the four of us were waiting to be introduced by Ayce was the most exciting feeling,” said Jodi. “Everything we had planned for and talked about was about to become real!”

Noah’s closest friends from school, synagogue and his camp, 6 Points Sports Academy, came to be with him, along with many out-of-town relatives and family friends. Jodi’s friends kept the hospitality suite at the Westin Atlanta Perimeter North stocked all weekend for guests with noshes and drinks.

Scenesations Photography captured the evening’s celebration and produced the video montage of Noah’s first 13 years, which thrilled guests who saw themselves with the guest of honor through the years.  Everyone left with six-pack coolers (by Blue Rose Promotions) bearing Noah’s logo. These doubled as hospitality bags for the out-of-town guests. Jodi said she has enjoyed seeing local friends using them around town!

How did Atlanta Party Connection help your planning process?

“I called Shelly and emailed her with basic questions that you don’t notice when you’re a guest,” Jodi noted. She sought advice on party timelines, how to accommodate late-arriving guests and other details. She also found nearly all her vendors at the EXPO and on the APC site, and used their APC deals to save on services.

“If these vendors are willing to invest time and energy into seeking our Mitzvah business, then we should give it to them, and get a deal at the same time!”

Advice to Other Parents

Jodi notes, “You should accept help from friends and listen to what your kid wants. Don’t feel pressured by what grandparents or siblings think you should do or have. It’s not their weekend.”

Best Feedback

Noah told his mom that the celebration was more fantastic than he could have imagined. His camp friends exclaimed that they stayed off their phones until 10:30 p.m. – a sure sign of a great party!
