A Bar/Bat Mitzvah Kid doesn’t do it alone! We celebrate area families who recently celebrated a Mitzvah and find out about their festivities.
Mitzvah Family – Skyler N.

Temple Emanuel in Atlanta played host to a full-day production as Skyler led the morning services as a bat mitzvah and returned in the evening for a Hollywood-themed celebration with more than 100 family and friends.

Skyler’s father, Alan, was thrilled to see her on the bimah leading services, and felt proud that all the hard work she had put in was evident to the congregation.

Following a festive Kiddush luncheon by Chef Cary’s Cuisine in the social hall, the Indaglow Productions team set to work, transforming the space into a Tinseltown fantasy for actress-dancer Skyler’s Hollywood themed-celebration.

Skyler’s Aunt Lori says that Skyler was thrilled by how the room looked when she arrived. “She was over the moon! You didn’t know you were where we had the luncheon, Skyler couldn’t have been happier with the décor.”

Guests from the Atlanta area, Texas, Florida and other parts of Georgia entered the party by walking a red carpet, signaling both the theme and their importance to the family.

Guests signed their sentiments for Skyler on a large photo board, produced by photographer Barry Dreyer of Bima Shots, selected from a fun family shoot using the Krog Street Tunnel graffiti as a backdrop.

A video montage of Skyler by Blue Orchid Productions kicked off the festivities and impressed the family with seamless inclusion of photos and video, including footage of Skyler’s dance recitals. Lori noted, “Blue Orchid was so accommodating, and allowed us to make additions right before the big weekend.”

The dance floor, kept full by MC Andre of Espeute Productions, featured a vibrant dance floor wrap with Skyler Rose’s name in a Hollywood Walk of Fame-style star by Indaglow Productions with the logo designed by Mitzvah Memos. Academy Award statues dotted the tablescapes and Air Illustrations created themed airbrush tattoos for guests, who then posed with their new “ink” in the TapSnap 1036 interactive photo booth.

Alan said guests raved about the food by C. Parks Catering, which included Asian selections, sliders (mini burgers) and a carving station for adults along with taco and pasta bars for the teens. One of the most popular elements of the evening was a cookie dough dessert bar, which Skyler envisioned, featuring different flavors of cookie dough, cookie stamps for shaping and a variety of toppings like sprinkles and candy.

A highlight of the evening was a father-daughter dance that Skyler had choreographed for the big day. The celebration was high energy until the end, when Skyler was saddened to say goodbye to a phenomenal evening. Lori commented, “That’s the sign of a great party!” Young guests took home logoed t-shirts by Blue Rose Promotions.

Having stayed overnight with out-of-town guests at the Westin Atlanta Perimeter (home of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Expo), Skyler and Alan popped in to the EXPO which was held on Sunday during their brunch festivities. What a surprise to see Skyler and her family at the Expo that day!  They were able to give me a big hug, visit with their vendors and gave their positive review of the evening, extending that party feeling for a few more hours!

Advice to other parents:

Alan says, “Make sure you have a good planner to help choose the right vendors, and pay most attention to food and entertainment because that’s what people remember.” He also notes, “Take a moment to absorb everything and take it in. For the host, it’s a blur and goes by so fast!”

Lori advises, “Listen to what the Mitzvah child wants, but you don’t have to have an extravagant budget to make a beautiful party. Find out what they think is most important, and prioritize from there.”
