A Bar/Bat Mitzvah Kid doesn’t do it alone! We celebrate area families who recently celebrated a Mitzvah and find out about their festivities.
Surrounded by nearly 200 family and friends, Seth, son of Abi Auer and Craig Fagin, became a bar mitzvah at Temple Sinai in Atlanta, followed by an evening celebration at the W Atlanta Buckhead. In full disclosure, pulling off his rock-star themed bash was a true family affair: Atlanta Party Connection’s Shelly Danz is Seth’s proud aunt!
Along with Atlanta guests, out-of-towners came from Texas, Minnesota, Kansas and Florida to attend Seth’s big weekend. His ceremony was the first bar mitzvah attended by many extended family members who are not Jewish. For the Fagin family, having all their relatives come together in recognition of the important milestone was especially meaningful. Abi noted, “I loved that both sides of the family were moved by the symbolism of this special day,”
His evening celebration focused on Seth’s passion for music, and decorative touches, both small and large, highlighted the theme. The Fagins utilized the W’s edgy-looking black leather chairs and tabletoppers for a club/lounge look, and the hotel’s decorative microphone centerpieces fit the theme precisely. Guitar picks and packets of Pop Rocks candy dotted tables designated by the names of Seth’s 10 favorite rock bands. Kids’ mocktails came with “rock” candy stirrers.
Following the Fagin family’s high energy introduction, Seth did a stage dive to crowd surf with his friends, and MC Mello of Atlanta Fever kept the energy high with contemporary rock songs and inflatable guitars for guests to play on the dance floor. Abi shared, “He had nearly 90 kids up dancing and participating for the whole party!”
Temporary tattoos by Air Illustrations gave guests rock star cred, and even older guests got tattooed for fun. A newer twist on the green screen by Screensations features a roving photographer who brings props along, so that even guests who rarely left their tables or the dance floor could be photographed in entertaining ways.
A video montage of Seth through the years (by Spotlight Productions) impressed guests with its polished production, especially the embedded celebrity message from Seth’s favorite football star Tim Tebow.
The family used several Shelly’s Specials through atlantapartyconnection.com to get discounts on vendor packages and saved money by partnering with their shared Mitzvah date family to order Kippot with both Bar Mitzvah boys’ names on them. While the men in the family shopped for their weekend attire at Macy’s, Abi used the RenttheRunway.com to borrow her dress and jewelry at a fraction of what she would’ve spent to buy them, and Seth’s sister’s dress came from online consignment ThredUp.com.
Advice to other parents:
“Ask for what you want! It’s ok to be picky,” states Abi. The W Buckhead helped the Fagins hit all the right notes for the rock star celebration menu by mixing and matching items from all of the hotel’s food and beverage resources – a specialty dessert from the in-house restaurant, a custom salmon dish created especially for the party, and new presentations of a classic salad. “If you know what you want, you can get it!”
“Get a seasoned planner on board early,” Abi also recommends. “It saves time and energy to make informed decisions with an expert. Shelly could quickly get to the root of any idea to make the best suggestions for what would actually work.”
